Open Week One

20.1

What is up CrossFit world! Thursday, Oct 10th started the 2020 CrossFit Open with the first announcement of the games. Work 20.1 was

10 Round for time of:

8 ground to overhead

10 burpees

Before

I first hated this workout,  20.1 was my worst nightmare. Cardio and more cardio I know I would fatigue fast and it would all go downhill from there. Doing the workout Friday night, I loaded on caffeine and got ready to go. For warm-up I tried not to blow up any part of my body so I biked for 2 mins, warmed up on snatches and did a few burpees to figure out a method to stick too.

Strategy

I knew as an average Crossfitter I was not going to be able to finish this workout. With that said, I set my goal to 6 rounds and anything after that was brownie points. I knew I could not cycle that weight without needing LARGE amounts of rest after, so I decided to do “fast” singles and try to breathe on the burpees.

Durning

3…2…1…GO, things got bad FAST. I looked at the clock after round one and only one minute had passed.  This is when I decided to not look at the clock again. Quick single lifts were my best friends and burpees were quite awful. The weight was fairly easy to lift, but the cardio was the thing that stabbed you in the back. Sticking to my “strategy” of one rep at a time I complete 6 rounds and 7 overheads for a total of 115 reps.
