What is up CrossFit world! This week is week five the final week of the CrossFit Open. Dave Castro gave us a hint of hell for this week and I think we got it.
For time, partitioned any way:
40 muscle-ups
80-cal. row
120 wall-ball shots
♀ 14-lb. ball to 9 ft.
♂ 20-lb. ball to 10 ft.
Before
Finally a workout I can semi RX. I knew I could not do ring rows, but I do know I can row and reach 9 ft for wall balls. So, I set out to RX the workout and wing the muscle-ups at the end.
Strategy
Talking to others, most at my gym and all in my heat were doing 10 rounds of 8 cal row and 12 wall balls. But I figured that it would take less time, especially with transitions, to do 8 rounds of 10 cal row and 15 wall balls.
Durning
Looking at others in my heat, I was finishing 10 cals right around others were finishing the 8. The extra three wall balls did not put me far back in the competition what so ever. I was actually ahead in rounds than most in my heat even when doing more in one round. Once I finished that, it was time to attempt ring rows. GUESS WHAT! I did not get one. Although it did motivate me to practice them more.
After
I finished the wall balls and rowing at 13:53. The best finish I have had so far between my gym mates. I finished 11 th overall between males and females in my gym. Now that the games are over I am excited to learn more skills and hopefully lift heavier. These weeks have made me a more well-rounded athlete and forced me to learn that some times your game plans do not always work.
